Be careful what you wish for

If you get things that you desire, there may be unforeseen and unpleasant consequences.

This is not always true, but it is always to consider. Really always. We understand this sentence in a more wider range. We humans have this wonderful gift of imagination. We can imagine and dream about things in such a detailed level, thus nothing of it is yet existing.

Now that we are in the 4th industrial revolution, we recommend urgently to take these reminding words brutally serious:

But great power carries with it great responsibility, and great responsibility entails a large amount of anxiety.
1879, Sir Hercules G. R. Robinson

When you are young, you might be dreaming of so many things. Most of them are materialistic dreams. You might dream of a new bike, or of a car or of your first apartment you are living without your parents. Some dreams are about status: becoming a department chief, a soldier, an admiral, a captain or a president. Others are dreaming of a profession: becoming a scientist, a police officer, a teacher, a doctor or a journalist.
When we are dreaming of any of these things, we are about going on a journey. From the current position of not having these things or not being in this position to this point in time, where we are getting these things or becoming this person that we were dreaming of. During this journey, we encountered many challenges and quite a number of situations, that we did not expect and that we were definitely not thinking of when we were dreaming about in the beginning.

Sometimes, we complete this particular journey towards the wished for and we are more than happy about it. Sometimes, we are very much surprised when we arrive there because things turn out not quite much the same way like we saw them in our dreams or wishes. We might be disappointed about that discovery. But either way, we gained a lot of experiences.

The only source of knowledge is experience.
Albert Einstein

But though all our knowledge begins with experience, it by no means follows, that all arises out of experience.
Immanuel Kant

As it is the nature of human mankind and as we are gifted with this great skill of imagination, we are dreaming quite a lot about quite many things. The point where we are failing so far is, not to reflect honestly when we have come to end of a journey, no matter what kind of discovery we have made. No matter if we are happy with our findings or if we have found something different than our dreams. The critical impact of not honestly reflecting is, that we are going with a high degree of possibility to do the same mistakes again and again.

Once this understanding has settled in, we start to gain a new skill: wisdom.

Wisdom
the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgement; the quality of being wise.
the fact of being based on sensible or wise thinking.
the body of knowledge and experience that develops within a specified society or period.

The Third Industrial Revolution has caused fundamental economic changes when new communication technologies converged with new energy regimes, mainly, renewable electricity.
On the dark side of this period, we can observe easily things like mobile phone overuse. Mobile-phone addiction or problem mobile phone use is a dependence syndrome seen among certain mobile phone users. Some mobile phone users exhibit problematic behaviours related to substance use disorders.
Or: Internet addiction is described as an impulse control disorder, which does not involve the use of an intoxicating drug and is very similar to pathological gambling. Some Internet users may develop an emotional attachment to online friends and activities they create on their computer screens. Internet users may enjoy aspects of the Internet that allow them to meet, socialize, and exchange ideas through the use of chat rooms, social networking websites, or “virtual communities.”

What are the consequences of an addiction?

Addiction is a brain disorder characterized by compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli, despite adverse consequences.

We highly encourage human mankind to reflect the so far done experiences and even more to study carefully the gained knowledge!

A.I. is most and first of all ARTIFICIAL and second correctly classified as “existential threat”.
